A Bit of History
Who was Laura Secord?
The school is named after Laura Ingersoll Secord, a Canadian heroine of the War of 1812, who walked thirty-two kilometres to warn of an impending American attack on the British outpost at Beaver Dam in Upper Canada (Ontario). Laura Secord’s long dangerous walk became a favourite story among Canadians about the War of 1812. Keep your eyes open, and you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of “Laura” at one of our school events.
Secord’s Mission Statement
Laura Secord Elementary is committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment in which all learners can develop their intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and creative potential in preparation for lifelong learning and success. |
The staff of Laura Secord wishes all the families at Laura Secord a very happy holiday! We will return to school on Tuesday, January 3rd at the regular time. Our school is making a New Year's Resolution to try to be on time. We have changed the morning bell to 8:55 to give students a chance to line up and teachers a chance to proceed outside to pick up the students. We are hoping that you will work with us to help all our students be ready to start their day at 9:00 am. The morning hours before recess are very valuable learning time for our students.
